Before installing Windows, check your computer's hardware and software for compatibility.
If you can get your tech support from somewhere other than Microsoft, I recommend getting the full OEM version of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or the full OEM version of Windows XP Media Center 2005. If you're a student or teacher, look for the discounted academic version. (The Full version avoids the problems the Upgrade version can cause and the OEM CD is half the price of the retail CD - no manual or tech support from Microsoft.)
CAUTION: Read customers' reviews of the stores first, especially the complaints, before buying the CD.
